Private Charles F. Hammond, Jr., was born in Roxbury and later lived at 11 Kerwin Street, Dorchester.   He played baseball with the Standish Club and the Intercity League. Hammond graduated from the Oliver Wendell Holmes School and then worked for the Shoe and Leather Exchange for five years.  He enlisted while working t the Fore River Shipyard.  He was in field artillery and died in October 1917.  He was 23 years of age.
