Joseph A. Hartin Square

The intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Adams Street was designated a Hero Square for Joseph A. Hartin.

Hartin lived on Ditson Street.  He was one of the first in the St. Ambrose Church parish to enlist.  He graduated from the Mather Grammar School and Dorchester High School.  He was assigned to Co D, 49th Regiment at Fort Slocum.  He was transferred overseas with Co C, 60th Infantry, 5th Division and was killed at Mauntfanchon in the Meuse-Argonne offensive on October 14, 1918.  He received the French Croix de Guerre.
