United States Navy 15 December 1940 – 23 August 1943 Francis William Carey was born on December 6, 1920 in Boston, MA. He attended English High School, graduating in 1938. Francis showed his love for our country when he enlisted in the United States Navy on December 15, 1940. Carey proudly served upon the USS Ingraham. On the night of August 22, 1942, in heavy fog, the USS Ingraham was investigating a collision off the coast of Nova Scotia. The USS Ingraham collided with the oil tanker Chemung and sank almost immediately. Only eleven men survived the collision. Carey was missing in action as a result of this collision. On August 23, 1943 he was officially presumed dead. Carey was survived by his father, William F. Carey of Boston, MA.

Carey lived on Longfellow Street.
