Kennedy lived at 31 Norwell Street, and he graduated from the Christopher Gibson School.  James Kennedy enlisted in the old Ninth Regiment. on May 30, 1917, and arrived in France on September 15, 1917.  He fought in all the engagements in which the 101st figured, serving under Capt. Christopher Lee, and was cited for bravery at Chateau Thierry, the Somme and Toul.  James Kennedy was killed in action in the drive at the Meuse salient toward Sedan on October 24, 1918. He served with Co I, 101st Infantry.  He was nearly 24 years of age.
