Maurice Marder was born in Russia in 1895. He attended the Wendell Phillips Grammar School and the English High School. He worked for Shattuck & Jones, fish merchants , where he was a chief clerk. Marder enlisted at Winthrop in 1917 when they formed the machine gun company and joined the 101st Machine Gun Company. He was killed in action at Chateau Thierry.
