Robert Edward Preston United States Army 6 August, 1947 – 16 February, 1968 Robert Edward Preston was born on August 6, 1947 in Boston. A resident of Mattapan, he enlisted in the United States Army on October 11, 1965 and began active duty the same day. Preston served in Vietnam as a Specialist 4 (SP4) with Company B, 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. On February 16, 1968, while riding as a passenger in a military vehicle in Hau Nghia, Vietnam, SP4 Preston was killed in action by an enemy anti-tank round. In honor of his sacrifice for his country, he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart. Robert is buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mattapan. He was survived by his mother Jeonette Preston a resident of Mattapan. SP4 Preston is also memorialized on Panel 39E, Row 11 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Sp 4 Preston’s family was from Foxboro and Charlestown.
